Hitoshi Okamoto’s talk event, ‘Coffee break wa taisetsu desune’,
which took place across the country from February to March this year,
will hold its final session on Sunday 7 June
at Studio B, Hirosaki MOCA with Yoshitomo Nara.
In the section titled ‘Coffee and Music’ within his book *Boku no coffee chizu(My Coffee Map)*,
Okamoto writes of his time frequenting the rock café Black Hawk,
and how, upon seeing a wall covered in record sleeves at the Nara’s exhibition
at the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art,his memories of Black Hawk were stirred by the songs playing there, and he was instantly drawn into Nara’s world.
At the Aomori Museum of Art’s exhibition ‘Yoshitomo Nara: The Beginning Place – From Here’,
visitors will once again encounter Nara and his music through a recreation of the rock café called ‘JAIL HOUSE 33 1/3’.
Nara occupies a significant place within Mr Okamoto’s concept of ‘Coffee and Music’.
‘Coffee break wa taisetsu desune (Coffee breaks are important, aren’t they?)’ We felt it was only natural for the final talk eventto take place in Hirosaki, Nara’s hometown, where the two of them could converse.
Held at the Hirosaki MOCA, where the rock café ‘JAIL HOUSE 33 1/3’ has been relocated,
the two will chat whilst listening to the music that played there back in the day on vinyl.

“Coffee break wa taisetsu desune”
power to the cafe, power to the cafe, right on
