エフスタイル と いま / F/style – Now, and Then
24 July (Fri) – 2 August (Sun)
12:00 noon – 6:00 pm
F/style began in 2001, when its two founders — fresh out of university — set off to sell their work directly, travelling from town to town. This year marks their twenty-fifth in business. Through a quarter century of great change in the world around them, the pair have carried on their work with the same quiet integrity, holding a steady balance between what changes and what stays the same. Their work today makes no loud statement. Instead, it draws out the natural forms already present in everyday life — pieces that, through years of use, come to reflect the bearing of the people who live with them. We hope you will come and see it for yourself.

Profile
F/style = Emi Igarashi + Wakana Hoshino
Emi Igarashi (b. 1978) and Wakana Hoshino (b. 1979) were both born in Niigata. In the spring of 2001, after graduating from Tohoku University of Art and Design, they founded F/style in their home city of Niigata. Working to the motto of taking on everything a product needs in order to reach the people who will use it — everything, that is, except the making itself — they handle the whole journey from design proposal to the building of sales channels. Their principal projects include a series of Gassan dantsu rugs made in Yamagata, and bags woven from shina-ori, a traditional bark-fibre textile of Niigata. Their work connects regional industries with the present day and carries what those industries make through to the hands that will use it.
Their publications include The Work of F/style (Anonima Studio) and the conversation collection Goodbye Mingei, Hello Mingei (Ribun Shuppan); they also appear in The Power to Create: Creators for Everyday Life (Little More) and in online features such as “Anemometri — A Notebook of the Wind: The Warm Cycle Woven by F/style” and “KOSA INTERVIEW 07”.
