White, and the colour of rust.
White, and the colour of rust.
This month we are holding a solo show by Noriko Kuwabara. She makes her pieces by putting a coat of white slip over porcelain. The white feels a little like powdered sugar, dry and soft under the fingers. The rust colour is different every time — how far it spreads is not decided until the piece comes out of the kiln. That slight unevenness in the shape is what makes each piece feel close to you, and it is something I always enjoy looking at. This show brings together mainly tea ware and pieces for everyday use on the table.
